Aged Care trainees commence at St Laurence

St Laurence Community Services has partnered with Northern Futures to deliver a dual aged care certificate course.

The qualification entails Certificate III in Aged Care with a focus on providing care for the frail aged and disabled in the residential setting and Certificate III in Home and Community Care provides services for aged and people with disabilities in their own homes.

Being a dual certificate, the trainee’s scope when applying for employment opportunities is widened to take into account such things as hours of work and childcare commitments.

Thirteen trainees have commenced at St Laurence and while the program has just commenced Northern Futures CEO Lou Brazier sees this as an important area of growth for Northern Futures.

“We will see similar growth in the aged care sector in Geelong’s north as we see elsewhere,” said Ms Brazier.

“Northern Futures industry partnership with St Laurence will not just help deliver training to people looking for a career; it will help fill a skills gap that will only get bigger without these sorts of programs.”

“These sorts of jobs are required around the clock, seven days a week and so they provide employment that suits people with a whole range of other demands on their time such as family or other part time work.” concluded Ms Brazier
