TAC’s trainee program celebrates successful outcomes

A trainee program at the TAC assisting job seekers from the 3214 suburbs continues to enjoy great success with eighteen young people having now completed Business Administration traineeships.

The program, which begun in January 2009, has seen eight of the young people transition into full-time employment with the TAC, eight have full-time employment with other companies and two have gone on to further studies.

An additional six young people from the 3214 postcode are currently undertaking traineeships with the TAC.

How does the TAC traineeship program work?
  • From the very beginning, trainees are given goals and expectations to work towards. This ensures they know exactly what it will take to become a valuable employee.
  • During the 12 month traineeship, trainees work in three different administration teams to give them a wide range of skills and experience.
  • Each trainee is scheduled to spend three hours per week studying in the library. This time is utilised to attain a Certificate III in Business Administration through The Gordon.
  • A mentor is assigned to each trainee. The mentor is an experienced manager within the TAC who is able to provide support and guidance to each young person to help them understand how to fit into a corporate business environment.
  • A trainee newsletter is distributed from time-to-time addressing issues of particular importance to the trainees in a way that is pitched directly at their level.
  • The trainee manager coaches each trainee regularly and is always available to support and encourage trainees.
  • When each trainee gets towards the nine month mark, they are coached by the trainee manager on how recruitment works, i.e. how to understand key selection criteria, what to expect at an interview, etc.
TAC trainees are recommended by Gforce Group Training and Mentor Human Resources, who remain their legal employer while the TAC is the host employer.
