Logistics participants ready for work!

Northern Futures recently celebrated the graduation of participants in its Logistics and Supply Chain program.
The pilot program began in mid 2010 to offer support to long term unemployed from our 3214 community.
The objectives of the program were to:
-
Provide training for young and unemployed people in the northern suburbs of Geelong in Supply Chain Principles
- Use the Certificate IV in Supply Chain Principles as a vehicle to stimulate the trainees’ entry into the workplace
- Equip participants with skills and knowledge in an industry with an identified skills shortage
In collaboration with local JSAs and industry partners, the program content and delivery structure was developed to specifically meet the needs of the participants involved. This included one-on-one mentor support from recruitment to course completion and the provision of training in both traditional and non traditional environments.
As part of the program, industry partners provided the opportunity for on-site visits – giving participants first hand experience of the industry in which they hoped to work. It also enabled participants and industry to form and nurture relationships with one another with the aim of opening up future pathways into employment.
Fifteen participants graduated from the program, many of whom have already transitioned into further training or employment.
Northern Futures greatly appreciates the support of all its program partners in making the Logistics and Supply Chain program such a success. With so many fantastic outcomes achieved, we hope to continue with this program in 2011 to open up more training and job opportunities in our northern suburbs community.
